Self Employment in the Netherlands

More and more people in the Netherlands work as self-employed. The synomyns for being self-employed in the Netherlands are Freelance or ZZP (zelfstandig zonder personeel or self-employed without staff).
You made a decision to work for yourself. What do you need to know about starting up your own company?
When you set up your own business you have to deal with a number of issues which are relevant for every new starter.
Dutch Legal forms
There are various legal structures in the Netherlands you can choose from. For instance for an independent consultant a sole trader would be the best option while a group of lawyers might be best going into partnership for their joint practice. Entrepreneurs intending to start up a production facility might prefer a private limited company a ‘besloten vennootschap’ (BV) ). But which legal entity would suit your business and plans in the Netherlands?
There are two types of legal forms in this respect. The first type of legal form (‘personal companies’) do not bear legal personality. This means that you are personally liable for obligations of a:

Sole trader (ZZP)
Partnership under common firm (VOF)
Limited partnership in a Commanditaire Vennootschap (CV)
Partnership (maatschap)
The other type of legal forms are that are considered as a legal person. The company itself can be the contracting party, so the liability of the shareholders / directors is in principle limited to their invested amounts.

Private limited liability company (BV)
Public listed entity (NV)
Cooperative entity (Coop)
Foundation
Association
Branch office

For an expat moving to the Netherlands, getting the right direction is very important. It's important that one knows which steps and direction to take. Linda is an exceptionally talent counselor, her advice has helped me land a job within a week of coming to the Netherlands. I am grateful for her mentoring and look forward to a great working relationship in the future.

Furthermore, I found them be highly knowledgeable in key related fields such as recruitment strategy, immigration law, contracts, labor agreements, and (un)employment benefits. I would recommend Together Abroad to anyone who needs professional help with transitioning to a new career.

Linda is a big mind. She thinks about things that the rest normally overlook. The insight she has about the dutch job market can only be achieved through years of experience and persistence.

Her business savvy is complemented by her mastery of understanding the client's needs and requirements. For my career I could say, she was the “Mary Poppins”, who guided me through thick and thin and helped me to land a career in the Netherlands
