Lowest Number of Bankruptcies in 8 years

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that the number of bankruptcies decreased further, by 88 in August 2016 compared to July. Adjusted for court session days, the number of bankruptcies reached the lowest level since August 2008. Again, most bankruptcies were filed in the trade sector.
 - Downward trend
Adjusted for court session days, the number of bankruptcies peaked in May 2013 and then began to fall. In August 2015, the lowest level since October 2008 was reached, subsequently followed by a period of ups and downs.
In August 2016, the number of bankruptcies was lower than in August 2015 and reached the lowest level since August 2008. Over the first eight months of 2016, the number of bankruptcies was down by nearly one-fifth from the same period in 2015.
 - Most bankruptcies recorded in trade sector
If the number of court session days is not taken into account, 317 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) were declared bankrupt in August 2016. With a total of 63, the trade sector accounted for the highest number of bankruptcies. In the sector financial services, 61 bankruptcies were filed, but these two sectors include the highest number of businesses. Proportionally, the sector hotels and restaurants accounted for many bankruptcies.
