In the second quarter of 2015 the population of active women was 3.8 million comparing to 3.4 million in 2005. There were 4.5 million men to work against 4.4 million ten years ago.
Last year the number of working women fell to under 3.8 million. Especially the number of women employed in health and welfare fell. In the previous year the increase among women was relatively strong, so the number of working women again rose above 3.8 million. However, three quarters of women were working part-time, while among men - just a quarter. In the second quarter there were 84 thousand women and 24 thousand more men employed than in the same quarter a year earlier.
Compared to 2005 there were 462 thousand working women from 45 to 75 years. This is partly because there are more and more people over 45, partly because they are often keepsworking until a late age and the labor participation therefore increases. The number of employed or unemployed persons in the population (gross employment rate) in women aged 45 to 75 years has increased to just over half. For men, the gross labor eased, but with two out of three is still much higher than in women. Because of the aging population is shrinking just the number of people aged 25 to 45 years in paid employment. The decrease in the number of employed women was weaker than men. This is because the gross employment rate in this age group for men since the crisis was virtually unchanged but decreased. Until 2008 the employment rate and the number of employed increased among 25-45-year-olds.
The growth in the number of working women in the last year was accounted for by women aged 15 to 25 years and from 45 to 75 years. The number of women in education and with a prudential or administrative personnel increased in all ages relatively strongly. For young women in particular, the number of sales staff in retail is working strongly. This group represents almost half of all young women with commercial appeal. For women from 45 to 75 years, the growth was also high in the service professions, such as catering.
