More Employment in the Construction Sector Is Expected

Construction companies are again looking for permanent staff. Workers are no longer forced to work as freelancers, according to the Economic Institute for the Building Industry (EIB).

In 2017 and 2018, employment in construction might increase in as much as 34,000 years of employment (arbeidsjaren). In the three years after this the EIB expects to recover an additional 23 labour years. Therefore employment in construction will eventually be above the level before the crisis.

Because, of course, not all the work is done by permanent employees, it cannot be clear how many jobs it will be, but construction economists expect much more workers to work in paid employment, if they want.

The main cause for the boom is housing, which increased enormously in recent years and will continue to do so in the coming years. Yesterday, CBS announced that 54.000 houses were built in 2016, the highest number in years.

It is expected that non-residential buildings (offices, for example) and public works (roads, sewers etc.) in the coming years will cause a further increase in construction employment.
